Morning Mist Watercolor Painting

Daily painting I am working on....this may be finished. It is about 10 x 14" watercolor on Arches 140 lb paper. Thought for today is from Mike Markkula, vice chairman of Apple: "Success does not breed success. It breeds failure. It is failure that breeds success." ....from 'Failure is Written in Pencil' by David Ireland Please email me with questions regarding my artwork or purchasing information. More artwork at my website

Spring Greeting Watercolor Painting

Spring Greeting watercolor painting was inspired when I found these little beauties at the entrance to the zoo. My four year old grandson bent down to sniff them....I debated doing that as a painting. An original artwork it measures 8 x 14" on Arches watercolor paper. $168 with double mat and framed. "Hope springs exulting on triumphant wing.".... Robert Burns For purchasing information or questions about the work, you can email me at More artwork at my website

Tall Ships, Newport Watercolor Painting

Tall Ships, Newport watercolor painting inspired by the arrival of these tall ships to Newport, Rhode Island last summer, had a 'parade of sail' and then left. An original artwork it measures 10 x 14" $210 with double mat and framed .... just completed before I got sick a few days ago....I've had a flu bug so haven't painted for a few days now. I try to walk away from a painting before I think it's done and start fussing with it to prevent overworking it, but sometimes I have to go back in and do some more work. Sometimes it's nice to fuss and achieve a photorealism look, but sometimes the painting, like this, deserves to be fresh and crisp--like the day here--- with no fuss. Thought for today: "The art of medicine consists in amusing the patient while nature cures the disease." ... Pieta Watercolor Sketch

Pieta watercolor sketch inspired by a photo reference on Wet Canvas this weekend of the famous sculpture by Michaelangelo of Jesus and his mother Mary, using two colors. They say it is out of proportion, because a grown man cannot fit in the lap of a took two years for him to complete. Pieta means "pity", but this is one of the paradoxes, "He became weary, yet He is our rest. He was sold for thirty pieces of silver, and He bought our redemption. He died so we could live. To seek truth involves an integration of things that seem separate and look like opposites when, in reality, they are intertwined and related in some ways." There is a dark side to us, and by admitting that, others can see God's grace and light in our lives. Thomas Merton said, " A saint is not someone who is good but who experiences the goodness of God." ...from "The Velveteen Woman" by Brenda Waggoner. Being "real" is so important.

Pink Iris Watercolor Painting

This is a 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 watercolor $106 with double mat and framed ....not quite sure that's its "done" yet. Sometimes the process involves a little time distance and I "see" something I should change. Ah, if only we could change our lives that easily! One of my devotionals is a book called "The Courage to Change" and has today's quote: " I would not exchange the laughter of my heart for the fortunes of the multitudes; nor would I be content with converting my tears...into calm. It's my fervent hope that my whole life on this earth will ever be tears and laughter."....Kahlil Gibran For purchasing information, or questions, please email me at You can see a gallery of my work at my website.

Pots and Flowers Watercolor Painting

White Tigers Watercolor Painting

White Tigers watercolor painting is a 7 1/2 x 7 1/2" original artwork just finished this morning. $106 with double mat and framed. If you have a cat, you might recognize the ears back annoyed cat look of the one on the left. I think she's complaining about something.... definitely some non-verbal communication. Today I'm going to receive an award for my "Backyard Flowers" painting...honorable the R. I. Watercolor Society. Anyone in the area....come on in--Slater Park in Pawtucket, across from the carousel. Its a Member's Show and there's lots of great work. (I am part of the "hanging committee" so I saw it yesterday.) And it's a beautiful day for a walk in the park! "Conversation in real life is full of half-finished sentences and overlapping talk. Why shouldn't painting be too? "...Edgar Degas

Unconditional Love Watercolor Painting

Unconditional Love watercolor is about 7 x 8", watercolor on Arches 140 lb paper. I thought this was more a beautiful picture of unconditional love more than anything else, and that's why I wanted to paint it. "From the place of His dwelling He looks on all the inhabitants of the earth; He fashions their hearts individually." Psalm 33: 14-15 " .....Every single baby is a brand-new idea from the mind of God....You aren't one of many bricks in the mason's pile or one of dozen bolts in the mechanics drawer. You are it! And if you aren't you, we don't get you. The world misses out."....Max Lucado, "Cure for the Common Life"

Water Lillies Watercolor Painting

Water Lillies watercolor painting measures 10 X 14" on Arches 300 lb watercolor paper. "Earth's crammed with heaven, And every common bush afire with God; But only he who sees, takes off his shoes - The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries. " ... Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Teapots Watercolor Painting

Teapots watercolor painting measures 10 x 14" and was done from 2 different reference photos for the Wet Canvas weekend drawing event....and the challenge to play with the composition and/or color, and for this I did both. Thought for today: "Enthusiasm is not an emotional state. It is a spiritual commitment, a loving surrender to our creative process. Enthusiasm - from the Greek, "filled with God" - is an ongoing energy supply tapped into the flow of life itself." ....Julia Cameron Please email me for purchasing information and/or questions

Indian Watercolor Painting

Indian watercolor painting measures 7 1/2 x 9 1/2" and is done on Arches 140 lb paper. The reference photo was from Wet Canvas. I loved this image because of his reverent stance. Thought for today is once again from Max Lucado in his book "No Wonder They Call Him The Savior": "Of all we don't know about the creation, there is one thing we do know-- he did it with a smile.... Painting the stripes on the zebra... putting the gold in the sunset.... Stretching the neck of the giraffe, putting the flutter in the mockingbird's wings, planting the giggle in the hyena... Like a whistling carpenter in his workshop, he loved every bit of it. He poured himself into the work." I have a small sense of this when I'm lost in my work in my art studio, loving what I'm doing.

Waterfire Watercolor Painting

Waterfire watercolor painting is inspired by an artistic event that takes place in Providence, Rhode Island during the summer. Providence is built over water, and the whole length are basins they fill with wood continuously all night to keep the fires going until Midnight. Music is played, and if you don't mind crowds and traffic, a wonderful event. They also have gondola rides, which is what is pictured here, as well as all different kinds of things going on. This original artwork measures 10 x 14" done from a photo reference I had taken from one of the bridges over the water. "Good art is not what it looks like, but what it does to us." .... Roy Adzak

Rainy Day Watercolor Painting

Rainy Day is a 10 x 14" watercolor painting from a reference photo at the Wet Canvas weekend drawing event... I used cobalt violet and emerald green for the greys. Thought for today on worrying is a quote from Corrie Ten Boom: "Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow; it empties today of its strength." And then this thought about a sleepless, "fishless" night from Max Lucado. The Scripture is Luke 5:5 "We've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything." What are you fishing for, he asks?---solvency, --faith, --healing,-- a happy marriage.... We've felt what Peter felt in this Scripture. " He knows your nets are empty. He knows your heart is weary. He knows you'd like nothing more than to turn your back on the mess and call it a life. But he urges, 'it's not too late to try again'. See if Peter's reply won't help you answer. 'Because you say so, I will let down the nets.'"

Spring Robin Watercolor Painting

Spring Robin watercolor painting is a 7 x 10" . It's very cold, and dismal, and rainy here today in Rhode Island, but Spring is here they tell me. I thought this was a good way to start a blue Monday: "When the red, red robin comes bob- bob- bobbin, along, There'll be no more sobbin' when he starts throbbin' his old sweet song.... Wake -up, wake- up you sleepy- head Get -up, get -up get-out-of-bed, Cheer-up, cheer-up you sleepy-head, Live, love laugh and be happy."

Playing in Puddles Watercolor Painting

Playing in Puddles watercolor painting inspired by April showers, which bring puddles, for sure. This is a 7 x 10 watercolor on Arches 140 lb paper. "In childhood, time is kind. A moment is swallowed whole, by senses open and able." ...Nicoletta Baumeister For purchasing information you can email me at

Old Town Harbor, Block Island Watercolor Painting

Old Town Harbor, Block Island watercolor painting. This measures 10 x 14" on Arches 140 lb paper. Inspired by the unspoiled nature of Block Island...this beautiful old hotel, the undeveloped beach area, the peacefulness. "[Some] fishermen were relaxing in a Scottish seaside inn. One..gestured widely and...struck the serving maid's tea tray, sending the teapot flying into the whitewashed wall. The innkeeper...sighed, 'The whole wall will have to be repainted.' 'Perhaps not' offered a stranger....The man pulled [out] pencils, brushes and pigment....He sketched lines and dabbed...colors throughout the splashes of tea. In time, an image [emerged]: a stag with a great rack of antlers. The man [signed the picture], paid for his meal, and left. His name: Sir Edwin Landseer, famous painter of wildlife. In his hands a mistake became a masterpiece. God's hands do the same. He draws together the disjointed blotches in our life and renders them an expres

Rooster Watercolor Painting

Rooster watercolor painting inspired by the fact I couldn't resist this colorful guy.... 9 1/2 x 12" watercolor on Arches 140 lb paper. Thought for today: "Certain thoughts are prayers. There are moments when, whatever be the attitude of the body, the soul is on its knees." ...Victor Hugo
