Sunset on the Beach watercolor painting is 10.5 x 14.5 inches on Arches 140 lb paper. I watched a webinar by Johannes Vioothuis at Wet Canvas Live sponsored by F & W Media of Artists Magazine. The third and final one is next Saturday. After watching the classes I looked at my original painting (posted below--Sunset at the Beach). I washed that painting out (it is gone!) and repainted but the result was too muddy and overworked so I started over again with a fresh sheet of paper. This came out the best of the three. :-)

These are solitary animals I found out (not like wolves that travel in packs) when one had a den in my back yard rocks with five pups. A week after we discovered them, they all disappeared - first the mother, and after a few days of yelping, all the pups left. The mother watched from a distance the day we first discovered them...maybe worried they were in danger, but then took off. I managed to get a few photos of her, but none with the contentment this fox has.

Monarch Butterfly watercolor painting is an ATC - 2 1/2" X 3 1/2". it is pretty much life size (my computer, anyway!). I took this photo on Block Island in September - I think they are migrating at that time of year because I see a lot of them on the island -- once one was fluttering by while we were taking the ferry over. I do enjoy doing these small paintings, although they actually require extra care trying to get details in working so small. I know I've used this quote before, but it is beautiful:

Getting ready to hang my paintings at Hamilton House in Providence I spent the weekend packing up paintings and making sure everything is labeled. The work will be there from November 3rd until the end of December. Also, I have been working on the new book illustrations for Heal of the Hand, author Kiki Latimer. This book deals with the earthquake in Haiti and is a beautifully written story about healing that has it's own unique illustrating challenges..... So I have been busy, but not doing a lot of posting here, although I did find some 'fun' time this weekend with this photo reference for my painting which is from Wet Canas weekend drawing event.

I struggled on what to call this painting..... you can't really see Corn Neck Road, just the cars and/or bike riders as they go, which is just before the dunes in the distance, and of course the ocean is on the other side of the dunes (Crescent beach). We have painted at this spot before another year - the owner of the home has a sea gull that sits on top of her house, which she named. I've forgotten his name and will have to look for the painting/post to see.

Pears watercolor painting is 9 x 12 inches on Arches 140 pound paper. Calling this my 'resurrected pears'.... The problem with this for me was the background, which didn't come out the way I envisioned it, and then I completely ruined it....it was headed for the trash, but I thought I would see what would happen if I washed it out (put it in a tub of water and scrubbed as much of the paint off as I could). I let it dry and thought I would give it another try. Not my usual style, I think, but definitely a 'save'.

I used some different colors to get the subtle color differences between background water and the heron and I was lucky... as my dear mother used to say, "Better to be lucky than smart."
