Carribbean Welcome Watercolor Painting

Carribbean Welcome - 9 x 12 inches on Arches 140 pound paper.   Another one done during the after math of Hurricane Irene with a generator to power my studio light.   This was a photo reference from a Wet Canvas weekend drawing event - I can't remember the date - but I had saved it to do and found it trying to decide what to paint.   It just looked so inviting to me.   Unlike Hurricane Irene.

Me, I'm still waitin' for Hurricane Ed.
Old Ed wouldn't hurt ya, would he?
Sounds kinda friendly. 'Hell no, we ain't evacuatin'.
Ed's comin'!"
George Carlin

Red and White Still LIfe Watercolor Painting

Red and White Still Life watercolor painting is 9 X 12.  It is SO good to be back on-line, with all the things that plug into the walls working after Hurricane Irene.   I did this using a generator my son in law connected - I just wasn't able to post it until today.   Sometime during the night our power was restored.  Oh, we take so much for granted.....

Gratitude is an art of painting
an adversity into a lovely picture.  ~Kak Sri

Pumpkins watercolor painting is 9 x 12 inches on Arches 140 lb paper.

Oh how we love pumpkin season.  You did know this gourd-ish squash has its own season, right?  Winter, Spring, Summer, Pumpkin.... We anxiously anticipate it every year.  ~ Fearless Flyer, Trader Joe, October 2010

Tiger #3 Watercolor Painting

Tiger #3 watercolor painting was also part of the Wet Canvas weekend drawing event, and since I've never seen a tiger I didn't want to paint......     And I always think of one of my favorite books "The Life of Pi" and the bengal tiger, Richard Parker.
“Tree took account of road, which was aware of air,
which was mindful of sea, which shared things with sun. Every
element lived in harmonious relation with its neighbour, and all was kith and kin.”
"The Life of Pi"by Yann Martel

Butterfly In Flight Watercolor Painting

Butterfly in Flight original watercolor painting is about 5 x 7 inches and is from a Wet Canvas WDE (weekend drawing event) hosted by M. Beckett this weekend.  This is using Daniel Smith duochrome paint, which has a very slight iridescence to it in the natural light.

"But these are flowers that fly and all but sing:
And now from having ridden out desire
They lie closed over in the wind and cling
Where wheels have freshly sliced the April mire."
~Robert Frost, "Blue-Butterfly Day"

Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries Watercolor Painting

I just finished this Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries watercolor painting, 9 x 12 inches on Arches 140 pound paper, last night.     This is from a Wet Canvas Weekend Drawing Event photo.    This kept me busy pretty much all afternoon, which was great because it's a rainy day here in Rhode Island......

The best thing one can do when it's raining
is to let it rain.

White Rabbit Watercolor Painting

White Rabbit watercolor painting is 9 x 12 inches on Arches 140 lb paper.

"Counselors can comfort you in the storm, but you need a God who can
still the storm.  Friends can hold your hand at your deathbed, but you need a
Yahweh who has defeated the grave.  Philosophers can debate the meaning of life
but you need a Lord who can declare the meaning of life."
Max Lucado, from his book "Traveling Light":

Sunflower Watercolor Painting

Sunflower watercolor paintings is 9 x 12 inches on Arches 140 lb paper.    I wonder if I will ever tire of painting sunflowers?    And this lovely quote from Orin L. Crain:

"Remind me each day that the race is not always to the swift;
that there is more to life than increasing its speed.
Let me look upward into the towering oak and know that it grew
great and strong because it grew slowly and well."

Flying Egret Watercolor Painting

Watercolor painting I just finished last night "Flying Egret", which is 8 X 10 inches on Arches 300 pound paper.    I have begun illustrations for the 4th children book "Healing of the Hand"  which is beautifully written by Kiki Latimer and is a story of healing specifically relating to the earthquake in Haiti.   I think it's a beautiful story that will hopefully bring healing to many who have suffered such trauma and loss.

"Life is no brief candle to me.   It is a sort of splendid torch
which I have got hold of for the moment, and I want to make it burn as
brightly as possible before handing it on to future generations."
---George Bernard Shaw
