Barn on Block Island Watercolor Painting

Barn on Block Island watercolor painting is 10 x 14 inches and done plein air last week on Block Island, then washed out and redone from my photo.   Some of the dark areas were done with caron'dache neocolor crayons, and those did not wash out, so I was limited as to what I could re-do.  I may do this one again in my studio from my reference photo taken that day.

A single sunbeam is enough to drive away many shadows.

Scenes from Block Island

Trees on a Hill is about 7 x 11 inches.   This is from our week of plein air painting on Block Island.   It's overwhelming after working in a studio going out where everything is moving and there is lots of information.   This particular spot is beautiful with views of the ocean, a pond below us and rolling hills and in the far distance the shoreline of the mainland, boats passing by.....     I narrowed the focus down to this stand of trees on a hill above me.

Study of Tree and rock wall - moving my chair 10 degrees this was another focus for the next painting.  This is 7 x 11 inches also.

Artist Painting is another view in the same spot (8 x 8 inches) and another study of the spot, the day, the mood of that gorgeous day.     I take lots of photos to do more detailed work in the studio of the area, but it's great to paint outside and see the riot of colors that do not show up in photographs.

I have more paintings done throughout the week that I will be posting over the next few days.....

Black Cat Watercolor Painting

Black Cat watercolor painting is 4 x 4 inches on Ampersand Watercolor board.   What a great surface to paint on.   This is from a Wet Canvas weekend drawing event and is "Juliet".    Her twin is our cat "Midnight", who thinks he is an 'attack cat'.

In order to keep a true perspective of one's importance,
everyone should have a dog that will worship him
and a cat that will ignore him.

Still Life With Lemons Watercolor Painting

Still Life With Lemons watercolor painting is 5 x 7 inches on Arches 140 pound paper.  This also from a Wet Canvas all media weekend drawing event.   Difficult painting this weekend between the new puppy and a TV falling on my foot (no broken bones!).

and furniture polish is made from real lemons.

Zebra Butterfly 2 Watercolor Painting

Zebra Butterfly 2 Watercolor Painting is 8 x 10 inches on Arches 140 lb paper.  These are from photos taken at the Roger Williams Zoo "Flutterby" Butterfly exhibit of 2009 - some from the 2008.  I take a lot of photos - carrying my camera at all times is a priority for me - for paintings.  There were so many beautiful butterflies, as well as flowers, I was in heaven in that exhibit.   My grandson's waited patiently for a butterfly to land on them in one of their very cute butterfly chairs.   A fun exhibit I hope they bring  back to the zoo.

Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued,
is always just beyond your grasp,
but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.

Still Life with Rose

Still Life with Rose watercolor painting is 8 x 10 inches on Arches 140 hot pressed paper.    I debated on whether to put a soft background color on this but I like the darks against the white in this.   This is a Wet Canvas all media weekend drawing event.

The most authentic thing about us
Is our capacity to create, to overcome,
To endure, to transform, to love,
And to be greater than our suffering."
