Block Island View Watercolor Painting

Block Island View Watercolor Painting is 12 x 16 inches. This was originally started on a cold blustery September day. The sun was warm, but the wind was hard, especially trying to paint. But a gorgeous view and those clouds! They changed several times while I was painting.

"If the only prayer you said in your whole
life was, 'thank you', that would suffice."
Meister Eckhart

"Each indecision brings its own delays and days are lost
lamenting over lost days.....
What you can do or think you can do, begin it.
For boldness has Magic, Power, and Genius in it."

Artists on the Beach Watercolor Painting

Artists on the Beach Watercolor Painting is 7 x 10 inches on Arches 140 pound paper. This is Block Island and two of the group of plein air painters working last week. Usually Block Island is a week of relaxation and fun, however, in anticipation of the upcoming signing for the book, news media interviews, TV interviews.... it was not.

Still riding the "high" from last Saturday's premier of our book "The WaterFire Duck" and the signing. What an evening! The Mayor of Providence, David Cicciline, was there and we signed a book for him, the author and I were honored with lighting the torches for the boats - marching through the crowds with our torches, down to the water. What an amazing feeling, and we didn't want to relinquish our torches!! For those of you who have never experience WaterFire, it is a work of art that involves all of the sense - smell, sight, sound - a huge party that extends for over a mile in the city with thousands of people - smiling and happy!! That night they had canoes with koi fish lit up on the water also, Jack-o-lanterns carved out by the Roger Williams Zoo, Lion Dancers..... You can investigate a little more at WaterFire.org A great reason to visit the city of Providence (among other things here!)

Still Life Jugs Watercolor Painting

Still Life Watercolor Painting ... this is 7 x 11 inches on Arches 140 pound paper. This was from our week of plein air painting, but this day was overcast and very windy so we all painted inside of Summer Hill, Block Island. I found these little treasures on a shelf in the kitchen, sort of representative of the island itself and its treasures you have to search for and find.

Sunflower Watercolor Painting

Sunflower Watercolor Painting is 7 x 10 inches on Arches 140 pound paper. This is from a Wet Canvas weekend drawing event reference photo.

The challenge by the host this weekend was "As we pause to reflect the tragedies of 9/11... tell us what makes you happy about painting it, or what great memory or feeling does it evoke as you style it as your own?" What makes me happy about this painting is the beautiful colors and fragile beauty of this flower --- a moment in time so fleeting expressed and preserved on paint and paper.
