A truly noble creature.
"The Life of Pi", by Yann Martel, is about a young man who survives a shipwreck and saves this 450 pound Bengal Tiger, named Richard Parker, the two of them adrift on this life raft for 200 plus days.
His father was a zoo keeper and he speaks a lot about animal behavior, and also of religion and spirituality - he practices Hindu, Christianity and Islam--finding good in all of them. He says, "I just want to love God."
Pi's survival he says is dependent on the survival of the tiger. "We would live-- or we would die--together." So, he manages to feed them both for their duration at sea and they both survive.
