Waterfall #2 Original Watercolor Painting

 

Waterfall #2 original watercolor painting is 9 x 12 on Arches 140 lb paper.   This is actually my third painting of this scene.  Hopefully three times "is the charm" as the saying goes.   :-)    Sometimes people will ask me how long it takes to do a painting, and this is the kind of thing that's difficult to explain --- all the times you don't achieve what you wanted to with a painting.    After seeing the final webinar and hearing all those 13 commandments of a good painting after looking at this I had to change it.  Unfortunately, I forgot in all my optimism that I had already listed this on Ebay.    The auction ends today, and I did post a revised picture, but unfortunately Ebay doesn't allow you to alter your description or delete the original photo.  The same thing is true of the Waterfall posted below, also revised since posting.    And of course, I couldn't resist some trivia on that saying (of which there is more on Phrase Finder) :

I know I said to post another waterfall, but I am thinking of doing it over (again) because I see a lot of things I don't like--mainly that it is overworked.   Knowing when to stop in a painting is important so that doesn't happen.   Painting is a continual learning process.....

Waterfall Watercolor Painting

 

Waterfall watercolor painting is 8 x 12 inches on Arches paper.   I watched a live webinar with Johannes Vloothuis on Saturday (the second of 3) sponsored by The Artist's Magazine and this reference was part of this week's homework assignment.    I kept hearing his voice in my head as I painted....."thou shalt have abstract shapes....thou shalt vary colors within that abstract....'no fly' zones....     :-)  Tomorrow I will post another waterfall, which I redid after the webinar.

And here is the final painting, which I revised yestserday:

 I think this has more color harmony than the original above.....

Free Wheeling Watercolor Painting

Free Wheeling watercolor painting is 9x 12 inches.   This is from a couple of photo references from Wet Canvas weekend drawing event from last week.  It was actually a photo of a mime and since his head was turned away, he needed something to look at, so I put him on the beach.

North Light House Original Watercolor Painting

 

North Lighthouse, Block Island  original watercolor painting is 18 X 24 inches.  This is a different sky than a previous painting I did of this same spot.  The photo is brighter on the bottom left than it should be because of the artificial lighting.  I've been doing skies all week after watching Johannes Vloothuis webinar.  Lots of good information.  :)

Sunset on the Beach Watercolor Painting

 Sunset on the Beach watercolor painting is 10.5 x 14.5 inches on Arches 140 lb paper.   I watched a webinar by Johannes Vioothuis  at Wet Canvas Live sponsored by F & W Media of Artists Magazine.  The third and final one is next Saturday.   After watching the classes I looked at my original painting (posted below--Sunset at the Beach).  I washed that painting out (it is gone!) and repainted but the result was too muddy and overworked so I started over again with a fresh sheet of paper.  This came out the best of the three.  :-)

Do it no matter what. If you believe in it,

it is something very honorable. If somebody around 

you or your family does not understand it, then that's

their problem. But if you do have a passion, an honest passion, just do it.
